How to use the electric drill

Nov 22, 2022

1Personal protection when using electric drills

1.1 When working face up, wear a protective mask. Wear protective glasses to drill holes in pig iron castings to protect your eyes.

1.2 The drill bit gripper should be properly installed.

1.3 The drill bit is in a burning state during operation, and attention should be paid to burning the skin.

1.4 When drilling a hand-held electric drill above Φ12mm, a pistol drill with a side handle should be used.

1.5 Standing on the ladder to work or working at height should be done to fall from a high place, and the ladder should be supported by ground personnel.

2 Precautions should be taken before the job

2.1 Confirm whether the power supply connected to the site matches the nameplate of the electric drill. Whether a leakage protector is connected.

2.2 The drill bit and gripper should be adapted and properly installed.

2.3 Confirm that the switch on the electric drill is connected to the lock state, otherwise the electric drill will turn unexpectedly and immediately when the plug is inserted into the power outlet, which may cause the risk of personal injury.

2.4 If the work site is far from the power supply, when the cable needs to be extended, the capacity should be used to install a qualified extension cable. Extension cables, such as passing through pedestrian walkways, should be elevated or measures should be taken to prevent cables from being crushed and damaged.

3 The correct operation method of the electric drill

3.1 Drilling holes in metal materials should first be used to punch the upper eye at the position to be drilled.

3.2 When drilling larger holes, drill through them with a small drill bit in advance, and then use a large drill bit to drill the hole.

3.3 If it is necessary to drill on the metal for a long time, certain cooling measures can be taken to maintain the sharpness of the drill bit.

3.4 The drill cuttings generated during drilling are strictly forbidden to be cleaned directly by hand, and special tools should be used to clean the chips.

4. Maintenance and inspection

4.1 Check the drill bit

The use of sluggish or curved drills will cause abnormal motor overload face conditions and reduce work efficiency, so if such conditions are found, they should be replaced immediately.

4.2 Electric drill body fastening screw inspection

Check the tightening of the installation screws of the electric drill body before use, if the screws are found to be loose, they should be re-tightened immediately, otherwise it will cause the electric drill to fail.

4.3 Check the carbon brush

The carbon brush on the motor is a consumable, once its wear exceeds the limit, the motor will fail, therefore, the worn carbon brush should be replaced immediately, and the carbon brush must always be kept clean.

4.4 Protective grounding wire inspection

Protective grounding wire is an important measure to protect personal safety, so Class I appliances (metal shells) should be frequently checked that their shells should have good grounding.
