How to change the drill bit for power tools

Dec 27, 2023

1. Power off

If the power tool is wired, unplug it. If it is a wireless tool, make sure the battery is removed.

2. Release the drill holder

Most power tools are equipped with a bit holder for holding the bit. This is usually a swivel holder sleeve or a chuck. Locate and operate the release button or rotate the sleeve to open the gripper.

3. Remove the old drill bit

With the appropriate tool, such as a wrench or wrench key, open the gripper just enough to remove the old bit. Then, unscrew the old drill bit easily by hand or with a tool. Note that older bits may have lock threads and may need to be turned counterclockwise.
4. Clean the gripper

Remove any debris or debris from the gripper to ensure that the next bit is installed correctly.

5. Select and install a new drill bit

Select the right size and type of new drill bit. Ensure that the diameter of the new drill bit is compatible with the gripper. Insert the new bit into the gripper and make sure it holds securely.

6. Lock the gripper

Re-lock the gripper by pressing the release button or rotating the sleeve to ensure that the new bit is firmly secured in the gripper.

7. Test

Before reconnecting the power supply, test whether it is properly clamped by gently manually rotating the bit. Make sure there are no exceptions.

8. Reconnect the power supply

If it is a wired tool, reinsert the power plug. If it is a wireless tool, reinstall the battery.

9. Test run

Before the actual work, a short test run is carried out to ensure that the new drill works properly and the clamp is firm.
